    Towards Mobile Edge Computing: Taxonomy, Challenges, Applications and Future Realms

    The realm of cloud computing has revolutionized access to cloud resources and their utilization and applications over the Internet. However, deploying cloud computing for delay critical applications and reducing the delay in access to the resources are challenging. The Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) paradigm is one of the effective solutions, which brings the cloud computing services to the proximity of the edge network and leverages the available resources. This paper presents a survey of the latest and state-of-the-art algorithms, techniques, and concepts of MEC. The proposed work is unique in that the most novel algorithms are considered, which are not considered by the existing surveys. Moreover, the chosen novel literature of the existing researchers is classified in terms of performance metrics by describing the realms of promising performance and the regions where the margin of improvement exists for future investigation for the future researchers. This also eases the choice of a particular algorithm for a particular application. As compared to the existing surveys, the bibliometric overview is provided, which is further helpful for the researchers, engineers, and scientists for a thorough insight, application selection, and future consideration for improvement. In addition, applications related to the MEC platform are presented. Open research challenges, future directions, and lessons learned in area of the MEC are provided for further future investigation

    Definition of requirements for accessing multilingual information opinions

    International audienceIn this paper, we will present a study concerning the understanding of the needs of people using Internet in order to access to multilingual information. In fact, in the framework of AMIS (Accessing Multilingual Information and opinionS), a Chist-Era project, we propose to develop a system which will help to understand the main idea of a video in a foreign language. In order to design a useful system, a survey allowing to specify the profile of potential users of AMIS has been conducted. The study concerned 170 people from different countries: Poland, Spain and France. The sample is composed of people of different ages and different culture and languages.The results, in terms of requirements, achieved from this study show differences depending on how often the people watch the news on TV or review them on the Internet, and on the age of the target group. These concrete results help us in several decisions concerning how to build a realistic architecture of AMIS

    A Proposed Methodology for Subjective Evaluation of Video and Text Summarization

    International audienceTo evaluate a system that automatically summarizes video files (image and audio), it should be taken into account how the system works and which are the part of the process that should be evaluated, as two main topics to be evaluated can be differentiated: the video summary and the text summary. So, in the present article it is presented a complete way in order to evaluate this type of systems efficiently. With this objective, the authors have performed two types of evaluation: objective and subjective (the main focus of this paper). The objective evaluation is mainly done automatically, using established and proven metrics or frameworks, but it may need in some way the participation of humans, while the subjective evaluation is based directly on the opinion of people, who evaluate the system by answering a set of questions, which are then processed in order to obtain the targeted conclusions. The obtained general results from both evaluation systems will provide valuable information about the completeness and coherence, as well as the correctness of the generated summarizations from different points of view, as the lexical, semantical, etc. perspective. Apart from providing information about the state of the art, it will be presented an experimental proposal too, including the parameters of the experiment and the evaluation methods to be applied

    Summarizing videos into a target language: Methodology, architectures and evaluation

    International audienceThe aim of the work is to report the results of the Chist-Era project AMIS (Access Multilingual Information opinionS). The purpose of AMIS is to answer the following question: How to make the information in a foreign language accessible for everyone? This issue is not limited to translate a source video into a target language video since the objective is to provide only the main idea of an Arabic video in English. This objective necessitates developing research in several areas that are not, all arrived at a maturity state: Video summarization, Speech recognition, Machine translation, Audio summarization and Speech segmentation. In this article we present several possible architectures to achieve our objective, yet we focus on only one of them. The scientific locks are be presented, and we explain how to deal with them. One of the big challenges of this work is to conceive a way to evaluate objectively a system composed of several components knowing that each of them has its limits and can propagate errors through the first component. Also, a subjective evaluation procedure is proposed in which several annotators have been mobilized to test the quality of the achieved summaries

In other words, the understanding will be approached by the global meaning of the content of a support and not by the meaning of each fragment of a video. Several stumbling points remain before reaching the fixed goal. They concern the following aspects: Video summarization, Speech recognition, Machine translation and Speech segmentation. All these issues will be discussed and the methods used to develop each of these components will be presented. A first implementation is achieved and each component of this system is evaluated on a representative test data. We propose also a protocol for a global subjective evaluation of AMIS
